Board of Directors

The CoINVEST board has eleven Directors, consisting of eight industry representatives and three independents.

Four of the directors are elected by workers in the industry (two representing building trades workers and one each representing electrical trades workers and metal trades workers). Four are elected by employers in the industry (two representing building trades employers and one each representing electrical trades employers and metal trades employers). Three are independent "specialists" appointed by the eight industry directors from nominations provided by an independent assessment committee.

Director Profiles

Michael Anderson

Chairman/Independent Director

Michael Anderson was appointed 6 June 2005. Michael’s background is in finance and investment management, having held Chief Executive and senior executive positions at the National Australia Bank, Victorian Funds Management Corporation and the Transport Accident Commission amongst others. Currently he advises a number of organisations on investment related matters and is a director on the Board of ElecNet Australia Pty Ltd, the electrical industry redundancy fund. Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (Distinction) degree from RMIT, is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA) and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).

Arron Harris

Representative of Electrical Trades Workers

Arron Harris joined the Board on 9 May 2017. Arron has worked in the electrical industry for 20 years. In 2006 Arron became a branch organiser with the ETU Victorian Branch representing electrical workers in the contracting industry sector. In November 2016 Arron was appointed as an Assistant Secretary of the ETU Victorian Branch.

Grant Donald

Representative of Building Trades Employers

Grant Donald was appointed to the Board on 1 February 2017, having also served as an Alternate Director since May 2016. Grant is a long term director of a family run plumbing business in regional Victoria and is a National Council Representative of the Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Association of Australia.

Di Fulton

Independent Director

With a background in operational and commercial management at executive level, Di was appointed as a director in October 2015. Her career spans more than 20 years in the telecommunications and technology sector across a broad range of business and commercial operations roles. She was formerly the Executive Director, Commercial Operations globally for Telstra’s Enterprise and Services business. Di holds a Graduate Diploma of Business and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Di is a member of the Audit, Finance & Investment Committees and Chair of the Remuneration Committee.

Craig Kelly

Representative of Metal Trades Workers

Appointed to the Board on 6 February 2014. Craig has a long career working in the metal trades industry before his appointment as an Organiser of the AMWU in 2006. Since 2013 he has been the union’s Metals Coordinator, responsible for providing leadership and support for organisers, officers and staff to meet their potential

David Newnham

Representative of Building Trades Employers

Appointed to the Board in July 2011 after being an alternate director since March 2011. David has 40 years experience in the construction industry after graduating as a civil engineer. He has been State Building Manager for AV Jennings and is currently Managing Director of Stonehaven Homes. David has been a Director and President of the Master Builders Association of Victoria and was a member of the Building Practitioners Board from 1998 to 2006. He is also a director of Incolink, the construction industry severance fund.

Paddy McCrudden

Representative of Building Trades Workers

Paddy was appointed in November 2012. He is the current Federal President and Assistant Secretary of the Plumbing Trades Employees Union (PETU). He has previously worked as an organiser and industrial officer with the union and as a coordinator with Cbus Super.

Michael Purnell

Representative of Electrical Trades Employers

Michael Purnell joined the Board in March 2016. Michael is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Michael has a long history of General Management, Executive Directorships and Management Consulting with high profile organisations. He has served on the Council of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) as well as the NECA Industry Advisory Committee and a recent stint as the Interim Executive Director. Michael is also a director on the Protect Industry Severance Fund.

Barry Mitchell

Representative of Metal Trades Employers

Barry Mitchell was appointed 23 August 2006.He worked as an electrician for twelve years prior to joining the labour hire industry in 1976. He has since held executive positions with a number of companies in that industry including General Manager of Chelgrave Contracting Australia Pty Ltd. He is also chairman of the Victorian Labour Hire Group and sits on Incolink’s Fund No 2 Advisory Committee.

Shaun Reardon

Representative of Building Trades Workers

Shaun Reardon joined the Board on 3 February 2011. Shaun has been a fulltime official for the CFMEU since 2000 and has been responsible for representing the inner city of Melbourne including North Melbourne, Flemington, Western Suburbs and the labour hire industry. He has been Victorian State Assistant Secretary of the CFMEU since January 2013.

Alternate Director: Brian Boyd. Brian is the immediate past Secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council.

Kate Spargo

Independent Director

Kate Spargo joined as an Independent Director on 1 October 2005. She is presently Chairperson of the Audit Committee and as well as being a member of the Finance and Investment, and Remuneration Committee of the Board. Kate’s background is in law, both as a practitioner and in academia. Kate is Chairman of UGL Group, Chairman of Suncorp Portfolio Services Ltd and a director of Sonic Healthcare Ltd, SMEC Ltd, Adairs Ltd, and Fletcher Building.

The Board meets bi-monthly with Board Committee meetings held every alternate month. The Chief Executive Officer, Manager Corporate Strategy, Manager Finance & Investment and Manager Membership Services attend all Board meetings.
